to Carmelita,

What I can feel from Laowai is, it’s just a neuter, not good not bad, however, per my understanding, Laowai means those kind, friendly people.

to Professor L,

I got what Carmelita meant, but it seemed someone else got misunderstanding, that’s why I had to clarify.

Thank you all, I love you!

Hold on harmony, why does it have to mean racism couldn’t it mean PRIDE instead? When I was in the Yunnan Province the people usually identified with their minority group - with pride.

Arlee, technically your references were all correct. Most words that reference nationality depend on how they are used in CONTEXT. I think Carmelita was talking about within a conversation with someone you want to stay aware of what’s politically correct at the time. Am I right in saying this Carmelita? PROFESSOR L

Don’t sweat it Arlee - it changes with the times! Does Laowai have a bad meaning attached to it? I think we’re called "big noses" also. But it doesn’t bother me - I have little nose. (smile)

hi, do not misunderstood my clarification about Laowai and I might used improper word for BLACKs, but that’s all...
